TWO PLY DEADLIFT SUITS, SHOULD THEY BE LEGAL?

Postby BRENTSGTROCKHOWARD on Tue Dec 08, 2009 10:42 pm

Ok guys, give it some thought. In WABDL the members always vote for the changes, making it a very unique federation. I know if there is enough interest, Gus will consider taking this issue to an official vote. I feel two ply POLYESTER deadlift suits should be legal. Two ply bench shirts are legal, there is absolutely no reason why deadlifters shouldn't have the same option. There is absolutely the least amount of carryover in the deadlift as far as gear is concerned, so its not like the records are going to jump out of control. This is a subtle change, but one that needs to be made in all fairness.

What are your thoughts, if it were to go to vote?

Personally I voted for all single ply in the bench, and would vote the same way for deadlift suits.

I too voted for single ply. I'm not sure how the voting came out, but were stuck with the results... For now at least. I guess the only thing to say is, wait to see what happens with the double ply shirts and go from there with double deads... I'm on the fence about the double ply shirts.. might try it and might not. :ugeek:

I Vote for Single-ply Dead Lift suits. Single - Ply across the Bench/Dead Lifts.... :D

I, along with the 30 some odd lifters I coach, voted for single-ply on bench shirts, and if it were up for a vote we'd also vote for single-ply on deadlift suits.

Bottom line is the MAJORITY of WABDL chose DOUBLE PLY SHIRTS, so would it not be only fair to offer the same in DL suits? ITs really common sense and a no brainer to me. This has leaked out to other forums as well, and from what I can see the double ply votes FOR are in the lead. Either way I will be more than happy to defend my OPEN title in the deadlift and if any Master wants some, come on over to the OPEN and we will do it head to head in two divisions, what the heck? (all in fun fellas)! single ply, double, whatever way it goes, it will have no effect on me as in powerlifting and any other sport, show what ya got when it counts, talk is truly cheap, I will get mine either way, this is by no means for me to gain something personally, I just thought it might be fun for lifters to have a choice. and yes I definitely wanted to try the BOSS and two PLY Velocity DL suits for sure, it would be fun to try something new. Its not going to skew the DL records as much as the bench records get skewed when adding plies, in matter of fact the records might even stay the same. Someone explain how you can justify having two plies in the bench, where the records ARE DEFINITELY EFFECTED, to a two ply deadlift where they are effected little or not at all?

Rock you are not correct in that the majority of WABDL members chose double ply bench shirts. In fact the vote was not even close. The vast majorty chose single ply. Gus then decided to add double ply to the bench mix to cater to the few that asked for it.

In regard to double ply deadlift suits I can tell you feel very strongly about the issue so I think it best that you talk to Gus directly to see if he can put it in front of membership for approval in 2011. Double ply deadlift suits will not be approved in 2010. I see your point though so again talking to Gus would bethe best approach here.

Let's keep the deadlift suits to single ply and keep it the king of powerlifts. Rock, you can and have pull the big weight you dont need the two ply to prove you can hit the big numbers. I will always pull raw or single ply and work my way to the big numbers. We deadlifter dont need to fall victim to gear lifting. Just grip and rip! 8-)

The vote was OVERWHELMINGLY in favor of single-ply. Call Gus and he can give you the numbers. He decided to allow a double-ply division in part so as not to alienate those lifters who voted for double-ply. The results of the vote were clear: the overwhelming majority of members who voted did not want double-ply.

As for other forums, if they are not WABDL members and they did not participate in the voting, then their opinions--while I do respect them--simply don't matter in this case.

Do any of you think you would get bigger numbers with a 2 ply D/L suit? I have never felt the D/L suit helped much. I never wore one and was able to get 423 at 165 masters. Just my opinion.
