2009 WABDL COLLEGIATES

I just got back from the 2009 WABDL National Collegiates held in Houston in the special event center at the University of Houston Downtown. I was honored to be offered the task of being MC. All I can say is WOW! This was one of the best run meets I have ever been to. John Hudson was the Meet Director and with the help of the UHD Special Event personnel they thought of everything. The sound system was outstanding... the audience could clearly hear the announcer, AND there was music playing at just the right level to keep the audience entertained, but not so loud it interfered with the meet. There was a PowerPoint presentation on a large screen directly behind the lifter showing the name of the lifter, the school he or she represented, and the current attempt in pounds. There was plenty of food and refreshments to be had in the special events room, and there was a Starbucks and a Grill which was open most of the day and just down the hall.

A big congrats to John Hudson, and also hats off to the University of Houston Downtown. This University has gone the extra mile in support of Dr. Hudson and seemed genuninely happy and proud to host the event. Next year the meet will be hosted by the University of Texas at San Antonio, and if they step up to the plate like UHD did it will truley become one of WABDL's premier meets. If you are a College student I cannot recommend this meet enough!

Once again, the battle for first place came down to the University of Houston-Downtown and the University of Texas - San Antonio, with UHD edging out UTSA by 12 points to win back-to-back WABDL National Collegiate Team Titles.
