On August 13, 2011 13 year old Brennan Lewis walked into the WABDL – Minnesota Benchpress and Deadlift Championships with one goal…Smash the existing 12-13 year old 165 Lb benchpress world record. The record that Brennan was chasing was set in 2009 by Cody Summers of Oregon with an excellent press of 198 Lbs. Brennan had been training hard and didn’t waste any time in topping the old record. He opened with 215 Lbs and received 3 white lights! Brennan was not done, he decided that he wanted to make a statement and asked for 225 Lbs on the bar for his second. Brennan was confident, the bar went down and back up…three white lights, another world record and a meet PR!! For his third Brennan called for 236 Lbs. Brennan was relaxed, everything after this point was icing on the cake. Brennan got into his set up, lowered the bar “PRESS!” the bar shot to lockout...three whites and a huge meet PR!!! Brennan had set his sights on the world record and achieved his goal three times over, upping the record by 38 Lbs. Brennan was given a fourth attempt, asked for 245, but it was not to be. The bar shot off his chest, but stalled halfway up. After the attempt Brennan was overheard saying “man that got heavy fast”. Brennan plans on taking a few months to play football and then start training to up his PR’s.
