WABDL is not the only federation to do this. I had a Masters bench record in the UPA, but since I didn't pay for the Open division, I didn't get the Open record. I currently have a Master bench record in WABDL that is over 100# higher than the Open record(Illinois State). Doesn't make sense to me, but I lift to beat myself anyway. PR's are what its about.

Ok bro perhaps I should state WABDL IS IN THE MINORITY FROM THE FEDS I HAVE COMPETED IN, IN REGARDS TO THIS. I agree with you on one thing bro, PRs are certainly very important, but when I am on the world platform, the ONLY thing that matters to me, being in the OPEN division, is VICTORY. I have won a few world titles on bodyweight, 3 I believe, and another couple by just a KG, but a win is a win is a win!

I'm a novice lifter so it is merely an opinion... I personally like the different divisions. It makes me feel like I can "win" in certain ones if I'm not up to par with the Open lifters or any others for that matter. I like to have PR's myself, but somedays it's just nice to get that win under my belt and be done. The different age/weight groups makes me feel like I can say "I'm the best or one of the best in a certain age/weight division". This is without someone saying, "So and so can bench more than you". Well there are hundreds of guys that can bench more than me... But maybe not in my division. Part of the appeal of the different divisions is wondering if or who you're going to go up against. I would be upset if a person in an Open division beat me out of a World Record in the Law/Fire division if they didn't sign up for it... That is the chance a person would have to take... I signup for the divisions that I know I can better and better myself in. I'm not ready to take on the "big lifters" quite yet. WABDL has everything we all need... We shouldn't mess with it. It's all just part of the appeal of this federation... To me.

Tracy, you're the kind of lifter that Gus has always had in mind with WABDL: the regular, grass-roots lifter. This federation is for you. It's not about the superstar lifters. Those who expect special treatment because they are among the elite can go somewhere else. In WABDL, we all share the same platform and the same bar.

GUYS YOU ARE NOT GETTING THE POINT I AM TRYING TO STRESS HERE!!!

I LOVE having the different divisons, I once competed in the LAW FIRE and it was the most fulfilling show I have ever done, read this for an explanation: http://centralmaine.mainetoday.com/news ... rlif.shtml

I ONLY WANT TO ADD AN OPEN TEAM TROPHY, NOT AT THE EXPENSE OF CUTTING ANOTHER TROPHY!!!!

I have been with WABDL longer then 99 PERCENT OF THE PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM so no one needs to tell me what WABDL is about, I spoke with Gus about this fed as it first started. My first worlds was the second ever WABDL worlds, WABDL is far and above my favorite fed.

Having done ten or more worlds, I have seen many world champs and headliners come and lift in wabdl, I have never seen anyone expect any special treatment, and if they were headed that direction they didnt return for another show, Gus is pretty strict on that issue.

Brent,

1. I'm working on compiling a list of team champions and open winners for all weight classes in all WABDL World meets. Once we get it compiled, it will be up on the website. I think this will be something that lifters will enjoy seeing.

2. As for your open team trophy, if you feel that strongly about it then run it by Gus again and convince him put it to a vote of those of us who are on the Executive Committee. We'll give it fair and full consideration.

3. The team challenge is still on the table. Put together a team that can beat my collegiate team at Worlds under standard WABDL team rules and I'll buy you dinner.

Yours in strength . . .

I will run it by Gus, as for the Team contest idea, I am diverting my energy in putting together the BEST TEAM USA that I can find just in case Gus Ok's the idea so we can beat the rest of the world, in matter of fact, if Gus was for it, I would take Team USA against the rest of the world, kind of like Tiger vs the rest of the field lol, so thanks but no thanks. Good luck with your Collegiate team. Thanks John, see you in Reno.

Hey, how about a burnout contest? Either like a 225 rep contest at the end of lifting or, what may be more fair, a body weight rep contest.
Just a thought.
I'm 165 and want to be elite.

A rep contest, lol. holy moly there's probably 500 if not more lifters lifting at the worlds, lol Good thought though. I got a great idea, How about we all get some pr's as well as do our best to give our competition some competition, and being that my kids will be home with there grandmother,Me and the wife are hoping to compete angainst all our friends and hopefully some new ones in a six foot margarita, beer drinking, tequilla shooting, drinking contest after the liftings done. Maybe we can have a pre-eating contest after weigh-ins also. But hopefully it will be another great year to remember and this will be one of my three fall off the wagon events, and will definitly tip my shot glass to the memory of Jerry Capello........
